چکیده
The effects of guanethidine sympathetic nerve blocks on reperfusion of skeletal muscle was studied in rats. After 3 hours of ischaemia reperfusion was significantly better in animals that had received guanethidine.

Tourniquet-induced acute ischemia-reperfusion injury in mouse skeletal muscles: Involvement of superoxide.
Although arterial limb tourniquet is one of the first-line treatments to prevent exsanguinating hemorrhage in both civilian pre-hospital and battlefield casualty care, prolonged application of a limb tourniquet can lead to serious ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, the underlying pathomechanisms of tourniquet-induced ischemia-reperfusion injury are still poorly understood. Using a murine mod...
متن کاملInfluence of systemic hypotension on skeletal muscle ischemia-reperfusion injury after 4-hour tourniquet application.
OBJECTIVE Tourniquet use for extremity hemorrhage control is common in military trauma. Tourniquet use may be accompanied by systemic hypotension, but this phenomenon has not been studied. We aimed to define the muscle effects of the combined insult of tourniquet-induced skeletal muscle ischemia-reperfusion injury (I-R) and hemorrhagic hypotension. DESIGN After a 33% carotid arterial hemorrha...

Extremity injuries with hemorrhage have been a significant cause of death in civilian medicine and on the battlefield. The use of a tourniquet as an intervention is necessary for treatment to an injured limb; however, the tourniquet and subsequent release results in serious acute ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury in the skeletal muscle and neuromuscular junction (NMJ). Much evidence demonstrates...
متن کاملEffect of fluid resuscitation on acute skeletal muscle ischemia-reperfusion injury after hemorrhagic shock in rats.
BACKGROUND Severe extremity wounds with vascular injury are common in military trauma, and tourniquets are commonly used for hemorrhage control. The complications of tourniquet use in the setting of trauma are not well studied. This study investigated the combined effect of hemorrhagic shock and fluid resuscitation with Hextend (HX; BioTime, Inc) or lactated Ringer's (LR) on skeletal muscle sub...
متن کاملAnti-inflammatory macrophages improve skeletal muscle recovery from ischemia-reperfusion.
The presence of macrophages (MPs) is essential for skeletal muscle to properly regenerate following injury. The aim of this study was the evaluation of MP profiles and their importance in skeletal muscle recovering from tourniquet-induced ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). Using flow cytometry, we identified two distinct CD11b(+) MP populations that differ in expression of the surface markers Ly-6C an...
